The Magic of a Sale

by Brian on August 19, 2008

I guess it is obvious, but putting on a sale actually increases sales. Although the profit margin is substantially less (especially when I offer some products at 60% off), the volume is substantially more. As soon as I began putting some of Sand Shack’s items on sale this summer (the ones that haven’t been selling well previously), our weekly revenue spiked to a level that we haven’t seen for over a month. The sale is strictly a wholesale sale…so we are selling large quantities of jewelry and hats to lower end retailers who previously couldn’t afford Sand Shack products. This also allows us to get new customers who we can always offer our sale items to without jeopardizing our relationship with our main customers (who are willing to pay full price for the better items). It is similar to how big brands will sell all they can to top retailers like Macy’s and Nordstrom and then sell their remaining products at a steep discount to Ross or TJ Max.
