@Mark,
Yea - I totally agree with you about productivity dropping when you have music playing. I try and avoid listening to music when I want to get a lot of work done...and actually, I think podcasts are even worse than music to listen to when trying to get work done, because they require more concentration, however, when you are doing something brainless like riding a plane or driving a care (well, driving aint brainless, but on the highway it sometimes seems it) I think podcasts are a good way to spend your time wisely. Thanks for your comment and insight!
Cheers,
Brian

I like to listen the music throughout the day, often when doing something else. I actually consider this multitasking! For me, I ignore the music most the time and forget it's on. It's nice to have it on to fill the periods that are less busy when I do notice it though.

Actually, lately I've started consider this harmful to my productivity. I watched a program on the Discovery Channel (or similar) about the brain and how it gets information overload. For the very same reason that people shouldn't talk on the phone while driving, I'm considering not listening to music while working on the computer. Its distraction. For me, I'm able to see the results because I work slower when the music is on.

I think I'll try turning it down so that it's more difficult to hear the lyrics but the rhythm is still clear.

So, I can't listen to podcasts while doing something else. I forget it's on and then rewind thinking I might have missed something good.
